What, Me Worry?

In my Lebanon of the long ago I was a Girl Scout, then a Brownie Leader, then a Girl Scout Leader, and after arriving to the United States I became a Den Mother. Since then I have had a soft spot for the scouting organizations (and, yes, they have had their scandals), and I bought and sold the famous Girl Scout Cookies to support them. So, two little girls, accompanied by an adult woman, knocked on our door about two months ago to take my order for those famous cookies. I forgot all about that until some time later when one of the little girls and an adult woman knocked again to deliver my order! The little girl was so adorable, shy and not knowing exactly what to say. My heart went out to her! I asked her how old she was. Twelve, she answered. I paid, thanked her and told her: “I hope you will grow up in a beautiful world.” She smiled, while the woman accompanying her almost teared up as she said: “Thank you. These are lovely words!” I believe that she, like most of us, was reflecting the anxieties about the state of our affairs, and the hope that all children will grow up in a beautiful world. Her feelings and mine became even more poignant as I watched some of the Legislative Hearings regarding the Impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas, as well as the Hearings with the Social Platform Executives! Both depicted what a sorry state we are in! The Nonsense, the Sham Performances, Emoting, Senseless Drama, Vapid Speeches and the tit-for-tat between our Political Clowns was mere third-class theater, especially when they show so much concern for the welfare of our children and the need to protect them while doing Nothing about the Lethal Weapons that are Killing Them, the Industrial Food that is Poisoning their growing bodies, the Hunger and Poverty that afflicts so many of them, as well as the Dangerous World that they are growing up in! Despicable! Outrageous! Hypocrisy and Self-aggrandizement rather than Wisdom and a Sense of Responsibility!

Moreover, if it wasn’t very sad, dangerous and worrying it would be hilarious to witness that Joe Biden’s Mental Faculties were being discussed and compared to Donald Trump’s Mental Abilities. Oh boy, I thought! Coming on the day when I was trying to renew my Car Registration on-line, as well as paying my credit card bill and having my blood pressure go sky high, because I find these activities to be very stressful, I was wondering about my own Mental Capabilities! At this age of eighty, my blood pressure vacillates often and the slightest changes in my normal routine of simple tasks cause me to stress! So, while Trump and Biden are only human and subject to feeling Stress and Forgetfulness at their ages, with which I sympathize, they have also Chosen to be in Highly Responsible Positions, while I did not. Add to this all the Serious Problems in our World and you can imagine what a basket case I am these days! What, Me Worry? (Thank you MAD Magazine) Anyway, should our Presidential Election Candidates end up by being Trump and Biden then we are all in very serious trouble indeed! It scares the hell out of me when I think whether we want either of these two guys to have their finger on the Red Nuclear button during these precarious days??!! What with Europe getting itself ready to go to war as some of its leaders have emphatically stated; what with Corrupt Ukraine and all of NATO (North Atlantic TERRORIST organization) ganging up on Putin and believing that this will end well?; Palestine – for which I have no more words to add over and above my deep Sorrow! – and that whole region being roiled in wars and proxy wars with Genocide Joe leading the brigades; famines and uprooting of innocent civilians going on in Africa due to our meddling; Haiti and the mess over there that we engendered; very serious climate disasters on the increase? And that’s just the Apparent, because the Unseen is the World’s Ordinary People and their issues of grappling with that feeling of a pernicious miasma engulfing the Planet! Oh, my! No wonder that Scientists have set our Nuclear Armageddon at Ninety Seconds to Midnight and counting down?!!! It is just so damn Surreal and Alarming!

How do we Fix all this? As a start: War Is Not The Answer! And, as long as the Mitch McConnells in Washington DC and across the Nation’s Legislatures are holding onto their seats and waiting until they are hauled out by a stretcher? They all need to Go! And, certainly, certainly that as long as they are being bribed by Corporations that assure their reelection at the expense of the Welfare of the People! They need to be replaced by Ethical, Moral, Responsible Human Beings!

I read somewhere that Mark Twain said: “A Lie can travel halfway around the world while the Truth is putting on its shoes.” However, not anymore as much as it used to be thanks to Investigative Journalists, iPhones, Cameras and More Humans willing to speak and to call out all those Politicians, Arrogant and Greedy Corporations and Wicked Players who are, and have always been, contributing to the Rot that is eating away at our world! We have to do away with this malignant Colonist Enterprise and Runaway Capitalism, because if these are one aspect of American Exceptionalism, then Fuck Exceptionalism! However, there are Heroes and Heroines exposing the Lies, Deceit and Propaganda whether they are from Governments, or Corporations! We need them to be Multiplied all over the Planet, and just hope it won’t be too late to Correct Course!

I wake up every morning willing myself to be upbeat, to be positive. However, as soon as I start reading the News I become more and more apprehensive. At some point, there has to be a change, otherwise we are all Toast – literally! What, Me Worry and until Children are living in as Beautiful a World as we can make it? Oh, yes! Meanwhile we have to take care of ourselves, enjoy those few moments that give us joy and maintain as much of our sanity as possible considering our dire and dangerous situation!
