Yes, sadly, it is very, very Broken! And, no, it’s not going to get any better any time soon. In fact, it’s going to get worse. Much Worse! Remember this?
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall . . .
. . . All the King’s Horses and All the King’s Men
Couldn’t Put Humpty Dumpty together again!
And so it is that whether you love him, or hate him, voted for him, or not you must admit that Donald Trump is giving the world electric shock waves that are causing World Leaders to scurry like lab rats either to kiss the ring, or to vehemently protest. Oh My! Whatever the reaction, World Leaders and Politicians are in an absolute tizzy. However, I believe that it so Broken at this point that they Cannot Put Humpty Dumpty Together Again without a Very Serious Review of what a Disastrous Situation their Mismanagement and Policies have caused all over the Globe! That World has been Breaking since WWII especially (not that it was Ideal before that in any way!) when Arrogance, Greed and Corruption began manifesting themselves unabashedly! So, while we may all want to blame Trump for Breaking the World he is merely the Firebrand and Enabler (together with all his Acolytes) that threw gasoline on an already smoldering fire!
Perceptive Historians, Philosophers and Authors have been warning us of this for a very long time. Modestly speaking, so have I since I started this blog twelve years ago. Here are some excerpts:
Free Fall, July 2014 (read full post here): “Climate change; wealth disparities; wars based on lies and deceit; unmatched hypocrisy of the rulers; utter spinelessness of world leaders; a sex trade that gets its thrills from nine and ten year olds; rape gone amok; unrestrained and unlawful police activity; renegade multinational corporations wreaking havoc across the globe; greed unleashed and unabashed; abandoned sense of responsibility; unconscionable and unfettered governing bodies that have allowed their personal interests to rule over the good of the people; fire power in the hands of legitimate armies that are committing illegitimate acts (like the IDF); guns and grenades in the hands of gangsters (like Boko Haram and ISIS); a world where lawlessness has become commonplace and where the law has been twisted and mangled so often and so much that it has become undecipherable.”
Quo Vadis World, November 2014 (read full post here): “Last week, and as I was peacefully working on a crossword puzzle, Putin’s name came up as an answer to a clue. That immediately flashed the word: Kursk in my head. Does that conjure up any event in your memory? Here’s what my memory (and a news item that I had kept) recalled: August of the year 2000, a Russian nuclear submarine sinks with 118 crew members on board. They all perished. Putin was off vacationing somewhere. The mothers of the sailors were weeping and grieving. Glasnost and Perestroika had already happened, therefore, supposedly, this was the new, open Russia. Nadia Tylik, one of the angry, mourning mothers was shouting vociferously in the midst of a protesting crowd that was demanding an immediate investigation. On our television screens, as cameramen were filming away, a woman appeared behind her and gave her a hypodermic shot, after which she was limply carried off. Jaws dropped open! There were gasps uttered by viewers all over the world. Nadia’s image being given that sedating shot was splattered on the pages of multiple publications the next day. And then? Nothing! Nothing at all but a haunting image that remains in the memories of those of us who witnessed and recoiled at how Power chills, silences, incarcerates, tortures, kills!
And that’s how Power has been consolidating its grip on populations since the beginning of time. That Power has – with rare exceptions – historically proven itself to be malignant; it does not have the interests of the majority of citizens at heart; it does not seek the general good.”
Colonialism Redux, January 2017 (read full post here): “It is always so delightful to come across a paragraph in a book, or an article, that encapsulates our exact thoughts, or feelings, in a way that we couldn’t have said, written, or articulated better. Amitav Ghosh, in his book: Sea of Poppies (must reading!), published in 2008, evoked that delicious reaction in me. Here is the passage that one of the characters, Captain Chillingworth, expressed after learning that the British Government was about to start a war (actually, it was two wars) with China during the mid 19th Century:
“I am sure it will do a great deal of good for some of us. But I doubt I’ll be of that number, or that many Chinamen will. The truth is, sir, that men do what their power permits them to do. We are no different from the Pharaohs or the Mongols; the difference is only that when we kill people we feel compelled to pretend that is for some higher cause. It is this pretence of virtue, I promise you, that will never be forgiven by history.””
And here we are! Broken is nothing new. We have been breaking it for a long time! Never Forget that Genocide Joe did a Ton of Breaking and Damage! And, now, more than ever, we will be witnessing the avariciousness, corruption, greed, imperialism and arrogance of World Mismanagement and Misguided Policies that will see the Poor all over the World get Poorer, a very diminished Middle Class and a Billionaire Class that is bleeding us out of every guardrail in our systems, every social and economic protection, as well as providing us with plenty of angst, disconcerted existence and fear. Our foreign policy is totally misguided; Most of our Congressmen and Senators are corrupt and bribable bigots; our government is definitely bloated and wasteful. However, that does not excuse the unlawful and chaotic methods that Trump and his Minions are applying. So whether it comes in the form of Retribution, Fear-mongering, Colonialism Redux, or Any Method employed by the Billionaires to have more Power We, the Hoi Polloi, are Sitting Ducks while the Democrats Party is still trying to find its Mojo! Pathetic!!
It’s Broken! Very, Very Tragically Broken! And what the hell are we going to do about it? Huh?
